Yinka

Yinka is based on a pattern in Quilts on Safari, a book by the well-known South African quilters Jenny Williamson and Pat Parker. We are very grateful to Jenny and Pat who readily gave their blessing to De’s adaptation of their doll, delighted that it should be used in this way.

De has named her doll after Yinka Hill, a delightful girl whom two of us here used to teach in Midsomer Norton. Yinka was born to Nigerian parents and later adopted by Ken and Denise Hill, whom she adored.

Yinka was a joy: a happy, widely popular and bubbly girl who loved life but, suddenly and unexpectedly, she died whilst on an activity holiday in Australia. She was due to go hang-gliding the following day.

In Yinka’s memory, Mr and Mrs Hill set up a fund to help children with cancer, and through them, we are pleased to make a donation to CLIC (Cancer and Leukaemia in Children) for every pattern that we sell.

Amish Dolls
Following our unforgettable visits to John and Emma King, our Amish friends in Pennsylvania, we were sent a small family of Amish dolls! Now De has been given permission to create faithful copies of Emma and Amos which we are selling as kits. The kits include templates, fabric and full instructions for the dolls and their clothing. Each costs £9.50, including postage.

Emma is supplied with one of four authentically coloured dresses pink (as illustrated); dark green, dusty blue and aubergine. Please specify the colour required. Amos is available with a grey shirt and green trousers (as illustrated) or a dusty blue shirt with black trousers.

Both Emma and Amos stand about 15" (38 cm) high. Please note that sewing thread and kapok - or similar - for stuffing are not included in the kits.
