Coming a distance?

If you are travelling some distance to see us and need a mid-day meal, we thoroughly recommend The Somerset Waggon (01761 232732 - it’d be wise to give them a call) one mile from us in the middle of the village. Then – if you can tear yourself away from the shop – you might also care to visit one or more of the following excellent attractions near Midsomer Quilting.

Starting with the closest, there is Kilmersdon, the home of Jack and Jill. Some years ago I wrote some notes for the local primary school about these two young people, and now find that they have been quoted (unattributed!) on scores of websites. You’ll find my original article tucked away on www.ficklehill.com.

Just three miles away in Radstock, on the road to Bath, you’ll find the excellent, prize-winning local history museum (www.radstockmuseum.co.uk).

In Farrington Gurney – four miles from us on the way to Bristol – you’ll find a superb Farm Shop which has got to be one of the best of its kind.

The Book Barn, in Hallatrow, a mile further on towards Bristol, is an astonishing place. Goodness knows how many second hand books there are here – certainly hundreds of thousands – ranging from comic books and text books to rare editions of great value.

Within a fifteen mile drive there are many other outstanding attractions, including:

The American Museum in Bath - with its superb exhibitions of quilts.

The beautiful city of Bath, itself

The equally beautiful Wells, the smallest city in the country

Clarks Village - in Street, the UK's foremost outlet shopping centre with more than 90 outlet shops offering up to 60% discounts!

Cheddar Gorge and caves

Glastonbury – especially the abbey

Clarks Village in Street - 57 outlets for shopaholics

Wookey Hole Caves and village

The East Somerset Railway

Besides all these attractions there are at least a couple of dozen more – all within the fifteen mile radius - that we take our friends to see when they stay with us. So, all in all there are bags of things to do when you call on us - and we can tell you of more every time you come to Midsomer Quilting!
